Last March 2, PO2 Omar Malinao, a policeman from Tondo, Manila, shot the 13-year-old boy, Aldrinne Pineda, grade 6, near the Veritas Slaughterhouse. He was shot in the stomach by Malinao who was reportedly chasing a group of metal scrap looters.
The Manila Police District (MPD) on Thursday filed a murder case against the policeman. The teenager died in the hospital the next day but before he did, he told his father that it was a policeman who had shot him.
No witnesses were able to properly identify the shooter, because of a supposed black facemask. But Malinao has stepped forward, admitting that it was an accident because he tripped then instinctively triggered the gun.
The case against Malinao is purely circumstantial evidence, based on Malinao’s testimony and ballistic test, says the MPD homicide division chief, Senior Insp. Rommel Anicete.
Pineda was laid to rest on Wednesday afternoon at Manila North Cemetery.
