Robin Padilla, an ABS-CBN action star, received social media and viewer ire after he “forced” a 20-year-old Korean contestant, Kim Jiwan, to speak Tagalog before he could perform his magic trick.
Padilla, who was asked by Kim if he could be a volunteer for his close-up magic trick, said no. “Magtagalog ka muna bago mo ako kausapin,” said Padilla. The actress and co-judge, Angel Locsin, gave her aid by teaching Kim several Tagalog words, asking for Robin Padilla to help him in his magic trick.
“Iho, Pilipinas Got Talent, magtagalog ka,” added Padilla after Kim gave his first instruction for the magic trick in English. “Kasi magmumukha kaming katawa-tawa kung mag e-english kami para sayo,” Padilla added.
Padilla remained on his stance about the incident, even after he apologized before he gave a yes for him to move to the next round.
“Wala akong pinagsisisihan kasi ako pumupunta din ako sa ibang bansa. Kapag pumupunta ako sa ibang bansa, pinipilit kong malaman kung anong salita doon kasi bisita ka doon. Ikaw ang makikibagay,” he told reporters last Saturday, keeping to his stance about the issue.
Netizens took to social media, expressing their disgust and ire at how Robin Padilla was rude to the contestant.
Netizens also commented on how the actress, Angel Locsin tried to help the Korean contestant, Kim Jiwan.
They also noted how Vice Ganda gave a statement siding with Robin Padilla.
Kim Jiwan, despite the awkward audition, passed the auditions and entered the next round.
